A New York matinee – how exciting!
The greater Philadelphia area woke up to a couple inches of snow Sunday morning, hunkering down to count the hours until Eagles-Saints later this afternoon. Fortunately, the NBA schedule makers granted us a boon, gifting Philadelphia sports fans with a rare Sunday matinee for the Sixers at 1:00pm against the Knicks.
The Knicks have lost three straight games and 9 of their last 10 entering play Sunday. In recent weeks, drama has swirled around Enes Kanter not being happy with being benched in favor of Luke Kornet. Still, at least the Knicks have a clear path moving forward. Kevin Knox just won Rookie of the Month for December, and the team is positioning itself well for a legitimate chance at the first overall pick and Zion Williamson. Instead of trying to scrape together a likely failed run at the 8th seed and a first round playoff exit, if I’m a Knicks fan, I want a shot at this all day, every day:

The Sixers, of course, are coming off two bad losses themselves, a blowout in Washington Wednesday and an agonizing 2-point defeat at home to the Hawks Friday. Ordinarily, facing the Knicks would be an opportunity to pull out of the skid, as Philadelphia has won both meetings thus far this season by more than 20 points. Those games were at the Wells Fargo Center, however, and Joel Embiid (ankle) and Jimmy Butler (rib) are both questionable for this contest. If two of the team’s three stars are unavailable or significantly hampered by injury, all bets are off.
