Your Monday Morning Roundup

It’s going to be a big game tonight down in South Philly.

The Eagles host the Redskins at the Linc on ESPN in a game that could be the season for the Birds. The Eagles have gotten a little healthier with Darren Sproles returning barring a last-minute setback, but are still a little banged up. So are the Redskins who have Colt McCoy as their starting quarterback.

There’s also been some reported controversy within the locker room with a possible chemistry issue and Zach Ertz getting targeted too much. A loss only makes the chemistry worse while a win heals everything for now. A win over Washington puts the Eagles closer to the 2nd wild card spot and holding the tiebreaker over the Redskins for now. They play each other in the final week of the season.

We’ll have more on the game later today.

The Roundup:

The stove is pretty hot right now. The Phillies reportedly agreed on a trade with the Mariners for shortstop Jean Segura. J.P. Crawford is definitely in the deal, and there’s some reports that Carlos Santana could also be heading west.

With that, Jon Heyman believes the Phillies will target Bryce Harper first over Manny Machado.

In other Phillies news, the team declined to tender contracts for Justin Bour and Luis Avilan.

Two wins in two days for the Sixers this weekend. They defeated the Wizards on Friday night and closed out their homestand against the Grizzlies last night. Kevin will have more on Sunday night’s game later on the site.

Now to Markelle Fultz. He’ll continue to see specialists into the early part of this week, and there’s more to this:

Fultz’s teammates are increasingly concerned about his overall well-being beyond his struggles on the court, league sources told ESPN. The organization has expressed its support as Fultz, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft, completes his consultations in the coming days.

While Fultz was struggling, TJ McConnell was stuck to the bench and not getting any time. Now as the backup point guard, he’s getting playing time again and he could be worth a first round pick.

Amid the Ron Hextall firing (along with others) and his press conference on Friday, the Flyers went to Pittsburgh and defeated the Penguins 4-2. It was a very surprising result for Philadelphia, but the Penguins have also been struggling this season. Dale Weise got the game-winner on a shorthanded goal. They’re back home Thursday against Columbus. We might have a GM then.

Anthony Stolarz got the win in Pittsburgh and has been impressive lately. Even though he started the season as the third-string goalie in Lehigh Valley.

Despite lots of inactivity, Stolarz has been surprisingly sharp after being promoted to the Flyers because of injuries to Brian Elliott, Michal Neuvirth, and Lyon. Neuvirth is now healthy and he was Stolarz’s backup on Saturday. Lyon is back playing with the Phantoms. Cal Pickard, another goalie, was put on waivers (and claimed by Arizona) because of Stolarz’s emergence.

Stolarz was forced to stop several golden chances Saturday because of breakdowns by defensemen Shayne Gostisbehere and Ivan Provorov. His most important save came on Derek Grant’s shorthanded breakaway with 12:17 left, protecting the Flyers’ 3-2 lead.

“He kind of covered the puck, so I knew he was going to go low,” Stolarz said. “I tried to take away five hole and he made a little chip play, and I was lucky enough to get enough on it.”

That helped the Flyers win for just the second time in their last eight games. In the previous game, the Flyers blew a 3-1 third-period lead and lost to Ottawa, 4-3.

“It kind of gets us back on track,” said the 6-foot-6, 210-pound Stolarz, the tallest goalie in Flyers history and the owner of a 2.32 goals-against average and .923 save percentage in 10 career NHL games. “For me, it was nice to get that win, especially after the way the last game went, but as a team, it was huge.”

In Gritty news, he drilled a half-court shot at RUTGERS. And he now has a bobblehead.

In a pair of Big 5 games, Villanova got past La Salle by eight, while a late run by Temple helped them beat St. Joe’s.

Drexel took care of Robert Morris at the DAK. Ben Simmons and Kendall Jenner were there.

Temple will play Duke in the Walk-On’s Independence Bowl.

In other sports news, a video was released of Kareem Hunt shoving and kicking a woman back in February. The Chiefs released the running back later on Friday. The Eagles might claim him, but it’s very unlikely anyone does.

Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma made it to the College Football Playoff.

The Packers lost to the Cardinals and then fired head coach Mike McCarthy.

Brian Haddad is leaving 94 WIP.

In the news, former President George H. W. Bush passed away at the age of 94.

1 child dead and 40 others are hurt in a bus crash in Arkansas.
