The Jean Segura trade is official and it looks like a win for the Phillies.
Phillies announce deal. They get segura, Pazos and nicasio for Crawford and Santana. Official

Wait, the Mariners are going to take both Carlos Santana and J.P. Crawford off the Phillies’ hands in exchange for a 28-year-old two-time All-Star shortstop?
While Phillies fans are excited, it’s just as interesting to see how Mariners fans are taking the news. Spoiler alert: Not well.
Let’s take a look at some of the reaction to the trade, including a few posts from our friends in the Pacific Northwest.

The #Mariners are just giving away all-star players. The Segura trade is such a joke. Can’t see JP being a contributor at this level and Santana will be off the team asap.
On a positive, I won’t have to buy MLB At-Bat for the better part of the next decade.

A good lefty making minimum salary along with Segura. Only giving up Crawford. Giving up Santana’s contract and improving defense, by moving Hoskins to 1B. Tremendous deal for Phillies.

Horrible trade for Seattle. Phillies were begging teams to take Santana and his awful contract.

Does Dipoto have a job offer from the Phillies next year? This trade makes not even a little bit of sense for the Mariners.

This is such a fleecing.

Let’s rationalize this for a minute. In my opinion, this trade comes down to three things. The first is money, the Phillies seem to have a ton of it, so taking on Segura and Juan Nicasio’s contracts doesn’t seem to matter. Second is how good you expect Crawford be. To me, in his 72 games in the majors, Crawford hasn’t shown enough to warrant any type of future consideration. Finally, what can the Mariners flip Santana into? Surely they’re hoping he finds himself or becomes a valuable chip at the trade deadline to turn into more prospects.
While it’s nice to celebrate the Phillies becoming a better baseball team, sometimes it’s fun to see how another fan base is reacting, too.
