Star Hunting: A Twitter Timeline of the Sixers’ Trade for Jimmy Butler

The Sixers have reportedly gotten their man. After an off-season of getting roasted for the lack of impact moves by the Sixers, following Brett Brown’s quote about star hunting or start developing, GM Elton Brand pulled off the biggest early-season trade in recent memory. Shams Charania of The Athletic was first on the scene:

Woj got some specifics about an extra incoming player and an outgoing second round pick:

This was confirmed by Shams:

But what does this mean to the Sixers and Butler going forward? WOJBOMB:

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Shams dropped a bomb of his own:

If there was a question of whether or not Butler would play this evening, it was quickly dispelled:

I was in shock. In fact, I was in the middle of recording the Press Row Show from the Flyers game with Anthony SanFilippo when the news broke:

The move should go official early in the week, which caused some to wonder whether or not we’ll see Dario Saric and Robert Covington on the bench tonight. With a three-game road trip about to begin, some have had a tough time coming to grips with the reality that we won’t be able to say goodbye like Phillies fans were able to do back when Bobby Abreu was traded.

Then got over it:

Some were just plain weird:

Of course, some in the national media are skeptical of Butler’s longterm prospects with the team, but Zach Lowe did a pretty solid job in summing it up:

Other national media were less measured:

The Eagles’ most recent trade acquisition was elated:

So was the franchise QB:

For all the fans who’ve lamented the loss of Marco Belinelli and Ersan Ilyasova:

Man, this looks good.
