Flashback Friday: Philadelphia Eagles hang 37 on the Cowboys

In Week 11 of the 2017 regular season, the Philadelphia Eagles took a trip to ‘Big D’ and embarrassed the Dallas Cowboys.

To some of the Philadelphia Eagles fan base, the Dallas Cowboys are the team they hate the most. Sure, there’s a disdain for the Washington Redskins. There also isn’t an Eagles fan on the planet that can hear the words ‘Big Blue’ without getting sick.

Still, as intense as the hatred is for the New York Giants, there’s something truly gratifying about beating what some still refer to as ‘America’s Team’.

The bright lights surround another Eagles/Cowboys game.

‘Birds’ fans wouldn’t get that satisfaction in 2016, Sure, they won the season finale, but it was hard to get charged up over a game where Dallas played mostly reserves and Philly missed the postseason.

Prior to that, one day before Halloween, Dallas clawed their way to a 29-23 overtime win thanks to a Jason Witten touchdown catch in overtime (it always seems like it’s Witten who delivers the most crushing blows).

Philly rode a seven-game winning streak into Arlington for a Sunday night showdown with Dallas. The stage was set for revenge. This felt like a game the Eagles ought to win.

Philly shines in Prime Time.

Things didn’t start off so well, and at halftime, Dallas held a 9-7 lead. Who knows what was said, who said it or how much Gatorade everybody drank, but when these two rivals emerged from the locker room, Eagles fans were in for a treat.

‘The Birds’, without their kicker Jake Elliott, saw a special teams ace, Kamu Grugier-Hill, attempt a kickoff (a touchback). They saw touchdowns and two-point conversions . They saw a ‘scoop and score’, and when it was all said and done, the result was 30 unanswered second half points and one of the most lopsided victories in the history of this rivalry.

It still gives you chills when you watch this one, doesn’t it? The Eagles completed Week 11 of the 2017 NFL season with a victory. They had a 9-1 record. Next on the schedule was the Chicago Bears. This one would be played in the friendly confines of Lincoln Financial Field.
