Outside of the bullpen, this was a pretty bad game all-around. Adonis Medina struggled, giving up a 6-spot in the 3rd inning and got pulled. Blake Quinn and Alberto Tirado provided the remaining 5.1 innings of shutout relief. Meanwhile, the offense was held to 4 hits and were 0 for 3 with RISP.

Kannapolis 6, Lakewood 2

Will Stewart – 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K, 6 GB, 5 FB
Simon Muzziotti – 0 for 4, BB, K

Colby Fitch – 0 for 4, K (passed ball)

Josh Stephen – 2 for 4, R, 2B

Will Stewart left the game with a 2-0 lead before giving way to the bullpen. Ismael Cabrera and Luis Cedeno combined to give up all 6 earned runs for the BlueClaws in the game. Stewart’s ERA dropped to 1.25 following this start. Jhailyn Ortiz hit his 9th HR of the season, a solo-shot in the 2nd inning. Daniel Brito stole his 12 base last night and is batting .270 in his last 10 games.

Mahoning Valley 6, Williamsport 3

Gustavo Armas – 5.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, BB, 4 K, HR, 4 GB, 6 FB
Jonathan Guzman – 2 for 4, R, BB (fielding error)
Rafael Marchan – 2 for 5, CS
Alec Bohm – 0 for 3, K, HBP
Ben Pelletier – 2 for 4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI
Ben Aklinski – 1 for 4, RBI, 2 K
Seth Lancaster – 0 for 4, K
Lenin Rodriguez – 2 for 4, 2B
Jesus Henriquez – 1 for 3, BB
Keudy Bocio – 0 for 3, BB, 2 K

After giving up a run in the 1st inning, Gustavo Armas was cruising before reaching the 6th inning. He would then allow 4 runs to score, with reliever Jose Jimenez allowing one of those via an inherited runner. Before the 6th, Williamsport had a 3-1 lead. Ben Pelletier hit a solo HR in the 3rd inning, his 1st homer of the season. He had only 3 last year while with the GCL Phillies. Now onto the scary moment of the game, Alec Bohm was hit by a pitch on the left knee in the top of the 8th inning. He then needed a cart to get back to the clubhouse. There is a glimmer of hope as Bohm was seen after the game without crutches. Maybe they dodged a bullet. We shall see when Williamsport is back in action on Wednesday.
