Phillies MLR 6/12/18: Enyel De Los Santos, Adonis Medina and Ramon Rosso might be good

Phillies Minor League Roundup for 6/12/18

Today’s Probables:

LHV: Brandon Leibrandt
REA: Ranger Suarez
CLR: Mauricio Llovera
LWD: Will Stewart

Lehigh Valley 2, Buffalo 0 (GM1 of DH, 7 innings)
Buffalo 9, Lehigh Valley 2 (GM2 of DH, 7 innings, makeup of 5/13 ppd)

Enyel De Los Santos – 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K, 2 HBP, 6 GB, 6 FB
Tom Eshelman – 3.2 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 7 ER, BB, 5 K, 2 HR, 2 GB, 2 FB
Mitch Walding – 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 BB, 2 K, HBP
Joey Meneses – 1 for 7, R, K
Trevor Plouffe – 1 for 5, 2B, 2 RBI, K
Damek Tomscha – 0 for 3

While one starter is thriving, another is simply broken. Something is wrong with Tom Eshelman, whether it’s an injury or the league adjusting to him is anyone’s guess at this point. His ERA is at 7.74 in 54.2 IP. Meanwhile, Enyel De Los Santos has yet to slow down, picking up his 7th win and lowering his ERA to 1.47 in 73.1 innings. Splitting the doubleheader last night kept the IronPigs 1.5 games ahead of Buffalo and remain in 1st place in the North Division.

Harrisburg 8, Reading 3

Elniery Garcia – 2 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, HR, 0 GB, 1 FB
Malquin Canelo – 1 for 4, R, 2B, K
Cornelius Randolph – 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 K
Jan Hernandez – 0 for 3, R, 2 K, HBP
Darick Hall – 0 for 3, BB, K
Zach Green – 4 for 4, 2B, 3 RBI
Deivi Grullon – 0 for 4, 2 K

Speaking of broken pitchers, Elniery Garcia is nearly having just as bad a season as Tom Eshelman with his 0-6 record and 6.20 ERA. We are likely nearing either his demotion to the bullpen or outright release. The offense was entirely Zach Green last night, who had his first 4-hit game since 2016 when he was with Clearwater.

Clearwater 4, Tampa 3 (10 innings)

Adonis Medina – 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K, 5 GB, 5 FB
Arquimedes Gamboa – 1 for 4, 2B, K
Adam Haseley – 0 for 4, R, HBP
Austin Listi – 3 for 4, HR, 3 RBI, BB
Edgar Cabral – 0 for 4, K
Jose Pujols – 0 for 3, BB, 2 K (throwing error)
Henri Lartigue – 1 for 4
Raul Rivas – 0 for 4, R, 3 K
Jose Gomez – 0 for 4
Grenny Cumana – 3 for 4, R, RBI, CS

Adonis Medina out-duels…Adonis Rosa in yesterday’s matchup. Yes, there were two pitchers named Adonis facing each other. I’d be shocked if this happened state-side ball before. Medina left the game with a 3-0 lead, giving the bump to Luis Cedeno, who then gave up 3 runs to tie the game all without even recording an out. Austin Listi was the hero in the bottom of the 10th, delivering the game-winning RBI. He also had a 2-run HR in the 1st inning, his 9th homer of the season. Adam Haseley’s 14-game hitting streak came to an end last night, but with the HBP his on-base streak reaches 30 games.

Lakewood 5, Hagerstown 0

Ramon Rosso – 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K, 5 GB, 0 FB
Kevin Markham – 0 for 3, R, K, SB, HBP
Nick Maton – 1 for 3, HR, 2 RBI, BB, K
Jhailyn Ortiz – 0 for 3, R, K, HBP
Jake Scheiner – 0 for 4, K
Quincy Nieporte – 2 for 4, R, RBI
Daniel Brito – 3 for 4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, K
Rodolfo Duran – 1 for 4 (passed ball)
Cole Stobbe – 1 for 4, 3 K
Jesus Alastre – 1 for 3, K

Ramon Rosso’s spectacular season continues as he wins his 3rd straight game and lowers his ERA to 1.46. As draft signings get underway and the South Atlantic League All-Star game closes in, it’s only a matter of time before Rosso and Will Stewart get a promotion to Clearwater. Nick Maton (5) and Daniel Brito (3) both homer in the 5-run 3rd inning. Kevin Markham stole his 11th base of the season. Lakewood is now 38-26 and sit two games back of Kannapolis for 1st place in the Northern Division.
