Phils avoid sweep, salvage tough Brewers series

PHILADELPHIA — The Phillies salvaged their series with the Brewers with a 4-3 victory Sunday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park.

Phillies right-hander Zach Eflin avoided trouble after loading the bases with one out in the fifth inning, striking out a career-high nine batters in just six innings. Not a single Phillies run scored on a hit, but they managed to put the ball in play to bring four runs across.

Luis Garcia retired the first two batters he faced in the ninth before allowing a single to Domingo Santana and a double to Lorenzo Cain to put runners on second and third. Tommy Hunter retired Christian Yelich to end the game.
