Phillies MLR 5/15/18: Rehab starts from Jerad Eickhoff and Drew Anderson end in a wash

Phillies Minor League Roundup for 5/15/18

Today’s Probables:

LHV: Enyel De Los Santos
REA: Elniery Garcia (will start immediately following the continuation of yesterday’s suspended game at 11:45am)
CLR: TBD

Scranton/WB 4, Lehigh Valley 3

Drew Anderson – 4.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 K, HR, 1 GB, 7 FB
Mitch Walding – 2 for 4, HR, K (fielding error)
Dylan Cozens – 1 for 4, K, CS
Andrew Pullin – 0 for 4, 3 K

A rehab start for Drew Anderson who has been out all of this season so far with a forearm strain. Anderson kept Scranton hit-less through his first three innings before running into trouble in the 4th and 5th innings. Overall it was a solid rehab outing for a guy I think has bottom of the rotation upside still. The offense was fairly boring outside of Mitch Walding’s 6th HR of the season. While he isn’t quite on the 25 HR pace from last season, his SLG% is fairly close now (.504) as it was last season in Reading (.516). Our old buddy Tom Windle took the late-inning loss.

Portland 8, Reading 4 (GM1 of DH, 7 innings)
Reading 9, Portland 7 (GM2 of DH, make-up of 4/29 ppd, suspended in the 9th and will recap in tomorrow’s MLR)

Jerad Eickhoff – 3.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB, 3 K, HR, 3 GB, 2 FB
Zach Coppola – 0 for 4, 2 K
Malquin Canelo – 1 for 4
Damek Tomscha – 0 for 3, K
Zach Green – 0 for 2, BB
Jan Hernandez – 0 for 3
Cornelius Randolph – 2 for 3, R
Jiandido Tromp – 1 for 2, R, BB, K
Deivi Grullon – 2 for 3, HR, 3 RBI (catcher interference error)

Another rehab start, this time featuring our long-lost 3rd starter Jerad Eickhoff. He’s been out with a right lat injury. By the looks of yesterday’s start, he will likely need a couple more of these under his belt before he comes off the DL. Zach Eflin will have to do some huge things to secure his place in the rotation otherwise. Deivi Grullon hit a 3-run HR in the 2nd inning to briefly give the Fightins a lead in the game. It was his 6th HR of the season. Yesterday’s effort resulted in Cornelius Randolph having his first back-to-back multi-hit games of the season.

Palm Beach 2, Clearwater 1 (GM1 of DH, 7 innings)
Clearwater 11, Palm Beach 10 (GM2 of DH, 7 innings, makeup of 5/14 ppd)

Connor Seabold – 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 4 K, HR, WP, 8 GB, 3 FB
Adonis Medina – 2 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, HR, 4 GB, 0 FB
Arquimedes Gamboa – 3 for 8, R, 3B, 3 RBI, 2 K
Adam Haseley – 2 for 7, HR, 3 RBI, BB, 2 K, CS
Austin Listi – 1 for 4, 2 BB, K, 2 HBP
Darick Hall – 1 for 7, RBI, 2 K
Mickey Moniak – 3 for 7, R, K
Henri Lartigue – 1 for 3, K
Jose Pujols – 3 for 6, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, K
Jose Gomez – 0 for 3, K
Luke Williams – 1 for 3, R, 2B, K
Edgar Cabral – 0 for 2, 2 R, 2 BB
Raul Rivas – 2 for 4, 2 R, K
Jose Antequera – 2 for 3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, K

Connor Seabold is the hard-luck loser and Adonis Medina is the no-luck…no-decisioner? The Threshers offense didn’t have it against the Cardinals in Game 1, going 1 for 4 with RISP and leave 5 on-base. However, the offense came alive in Game 2 and in dramatic fashion scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning for the walk-off victory. They were facing a 10-3 deficit entering the bottom of the 5th inning. Not included in the late-inning rally were solo homers from Adam Haseley (2) and Jose Pujols (5). Mickey Moniak is riding a 5-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 9 of his last 10 games.

Lakewood, West Virginia (cancelled due to rain)
