Phillies MLR 4/16/18: Ranger Suarez dominates in third double-A start

Dylan Cozens homers again and Connor Brogdon looks good for Lakewood

Today’s probable starters:

LHV: Zach Eflin
REA: Harold Arauz
CLR: Bailey Falter
LWD: David Parkinson

Lehigh Valley 7, Norfolk 3

Jake Thompson: 3 IP, 5 H, 2 R (2 ER), 2 BB, 2 K, HR, 4 GB, 1 FB

Mitch Walding: 2 for 4, R, HR, 3 RBI, K
Andrew Pullin: 1 for 3, R, 2B, BB, K

Despite not getting much from Jake Thompson, the IronPigs found a way to win. Dylan Cozens homered again for his third of the season. Mitch Walding went yard as well for his second. The entire lineup other than Alexi Amarista got a base hit.

Reading 6, Harrisburg 0

Ranger Suarez: 8 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 10 K, 8 GB, 3 FB
Zach Coppola: 3 for 5, 2 R, SB
Malquin Canelo: 0 for 2, R, 2 BB, 2 K, SB

Cornelius Randolph: 0 for 3, BB
Cord Sandberg: 0 for 1

Ranger Suarez was dominant in his third double-A start in Harrisburg. He went eight strong innings of six-hit ball, throwing 99 pitches and walking none. All the offense came off the bats of Damek Tomscha and Kyle Martin who knocked a two-RBI double and grand slam, respectively. Cornelius Randolph’s early-season struggles continue as his average drops to .194.

Greensboro 1, Lakewood 0

Connor Brogdon: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 6 K, 3 GB, 2 FB
Nick Maton: 0 for 4
Simon Muzziotti: 1 for 3, CS
Jake Scheiner: 0 for 3, K
Gregori Rivero: 0 for 3 (fielding error)
Jhailyn Ortiz: 0 for 3, 2 K
Daniel Brito: 0 for 2, BB, CS
Quincy Nieporte: 0 for 3, K
Rodolfo Duran: 0 for 3, 2 K
Josh Stephen: 0 for 2, BB

The BlueClaws were one-hit by Marlins prospect Edward Cabrera to waste a nice start by Connor Brogdon. Daniel Brito, repeating Lakewood, has started very slow as he’s slashing just .188/.257/.344. After it looked like he was starting to figure things out, Jhailyn Ortiz has now had back-to-back three-strikeout games.
