Eagles’ CB Worley Arrested, Team Reportedly Considering His Release

The Eagles’ title defense begins tomorrow when the team assembles at the NovaCare Complex for OTAs, but it is unclear if one of their offseason acquisitions will be in attendance after this troubling report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport emerged earlier this morning:

That…doesn’t sound ideal. To be fair, the circumstances around Worley’s arrest are still unclear, but the initial information is concerning.

Passed out in a vehicle that was blocking traffic + tased + combative with police + arrested + gun = ?

Les Bowen reports that the team is considering parting ways with Worley:

Joe Person, who covers the Carolina Panthers for the Charlotte Observer, reports the team had some concerns about Worley that played into their decision to trade him for Torrey Smith:

The 23-year-old is not the only new Eagle to deal with legal issues this offseason. High-profile acquisition Michael Bennett was arrested last month after being indicted on a felony charge of injuring an elderly person. The circumstances around that incident are still unclear. The Eagles, for their part, don’t seem too concerned about the Bennett incident. They are featuring the sale of his jersey on the homepage of the team’s online store:

As for Worley’s arrest, perhaps it is just a misunderstanding. Maybe it won’t prove to be a distraction as the season draws closer. Maybe he’s not on the team come this afternoon. We will see. Regardless of the outcome, the Eagles have to deal with some troubling news on the eve of their initial on-field preparations to repeat as champions-and the team’s brass is probably less than thrilled about it.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
